- This week’s word: efficient ♻️
We love easy sustainability.
It’s clean, measurable, and fits nicely between “make coffee” and “reply to emails.”
This week I read that Britain’s plastic waste exports jumped by 84%.
Apparently, it’s cheaper to ship our rubbish halfway across the world than to deal with it here — even though doing it locally could create a £2 billion recycling industry.
How efficient of us!
We call it recycling, but really, it’s outsourcing guilt.
Our waste travels more than most people’s passports, carrying away the chance to turn loss into energy — literal or otherwise.
Maybe that’s the real leak in the system: not the waste itself, but the energy we lose pretending it’s gone.
Maybe that’s why sustainability feels good — it’s designed to.
